Augmentation Is the Most Insidious Lie in Tech
Pay attention to the language. When a technology company wants to automate your job, they no longer say "automate." They say "augment."
This is not a neutral word choice. It is a rhetorical strategy. And it has been deployed so successfully that even people who should know better have started using it without irony.
What Augmentation Actually Means in Practice
The augmentation pitch goes like this: AI won't replace you. It will make you more powerful. You'll be a surgeon with a robot assistant, a lawyer with an AI researcher, a writer with an AI editor. The human remains central. The AI just amplifies.
